Journal Entry 16 (Day 16)

Hello! Good Evening guys, its day sixteen of my OIP trip in Nanjing – China. Today I woke up at 6.30am to prepare myself for the trip to Suzhou this morning. Shan Chun and I packed our stuff and went down to return our room key at 7.30am to check out of the hotel before going for breakfast in their hotel.

After our filling breakfast buffet meal, everyone gathered at the concierge at 7.45am waiting to take the hired comfort bus to Suzhou from Wuxi. Once everyone has reached, we departed. The journey took about one and a half hour to reach our destination. While travelling on the hired comfort bus, I realise that the taxis designs looks different from those from Nanjing and Wuxi. The colours of their taxis seem to be different when you are at another part of China. Most of the taxis are blue, green or yellow in colour to what I have noticed.

We reached Suzhou at 9.40am and the first place we went was to visit the Tiger Hill Scenic Spot. The entrance was said to be design as if it was a pair of tiger eyes and mouth even the bridge we were cross before entering was said to be a tiger’s tongue. There was quite a number of interesting stuff while walking. The scenery was filled with many greenery and stones that tells a story behind every legend. There was even a hand on water spring well where we could use a bucket with a string to pull up water from the well. The water we pulled out from the well was cold and it was said that if you wash your hands in the water you collect it could wash away all your misfortune. Everyone took lots of photos especially when we saw a temple like pentagon building which was pretty tall for a temple which caught our attention. It gave us a sense of achievement the moment we have finally reached the pentagon like building.

After our visit to the Tiger Hill Scenic Spot we went for lunch at 11.50am at “吴地人家, Wu Di Ren Jia” a Chinese restaurant. We had a range of course meals which taste surprisingly sweet as compared to the food in Wuxi or Nanjing which taste salty and spicy.

After our filling meal, we went to visit a huge temple with lots of different kinds of bud-dist Buddha. I saw many Buddha idols especially the 18 guardians who are the protector of the Buddha. Every single one of the Buddha idols had a name to its statue idols in three of the rooms. Every single details of the Buddha facial expression and design were outlined perfectly as if they were perfectly remembered the way they were in ancient times.

Shan Chun and I went around this huge temple to take lots of photos as well as to pray for our family peace and well-being. We even pray for our studies for our future. We made some donation before we left the place to the next location.

Everyone gathered at 2.45pm as we went to the Couple’s Retreat Hills. The building that we walked in no longer belongs to the noble couples and it has now a belonging of the government where they have turn their house into a tourist attraction. As we walked in, the tour guide told us that there are some special rules for us to take note before we visit the noble house of this couple to respect its master. We will need to walk pass 3 doors which I realise each door has a woody step at its entrance of each door. It was said that the higher the step was, the higher the rank of person is and the more respect you should have for the person. By walking through all 3 doors in sequence mean that we respect the owner of the house and we come in peace.

I also learnt that in traditional times in China, the people always follow law by law without breaking them. There were some rooms in the house which actually specify a specific gender to enter. There was a men room and a female room. Men room are usually used for discussion of business while the female rooms are meant for the ladies to wait in that room for their man to finish the business meeting. Therefore, the female rooms are usually known for a place where the ladies are able to have some social contact with one another.

It was also mention that in the past men and women were treated differently. Men are able to do more things they wanted to do as compared to a women as men are recognize as one with dominate power of the house. Women can only be bind by rules and obey them as their man usually has lots of pride and dignity to uphold within them without being disgrace in front of others.

Anyway at 4.18pm everyone gathered together and took a short boat ride. It was a wonderful experience to be seating in a sampan like boat with an old lady singing a song with using the oar. It was nice to have her with us. At the end of our boat ride, she asked me for tips and I asked Shan Chun and the rest about it, some of them pretended not to hear and such. Shan Chun smallest note at that point of time was 50 Yuan and he gave it to her. I felt that the tips were a little bit too much for a 5 minutes boat ride. Later on the tips money was divided within all the passer aboard.

After our boat ride, everyone went up the hired comfort bus to our next location. We reached a bird nest like building which looks a little similar to the one at Beijing at 5pm where we visited their theatre performance area. We took some pictures and we were lucky enough to catch of their local star JeansWest. There were lots of fans waiting for his arrival and once he came no one was allowed to take photos of him and those securities around him actually bring down your camera or cover them with their paper. At that point of time I felt that they were being very impolite and rude with their behaviour. Regardless of how big a star a person could be, he should be respected for who he is and his action matters and reflects on what kind of guy these fans are crazy about.

Anyway we took the hired comfort bus and left the place for dinner at Life Style Area (A shopping district). We reach the location at 5.55pm and went to a Chinese restaurant named “川行天下, 新川菜, Chuan Xing Tian Xia, Xin Chuan Cai”.

After our filling meal, we finally took the hired comfort bus to our hotel to call it a day. We reach Lexiang Hotel Suzhou at 8pm. Shan Chun and I unpacked our stuff and we met Wen Jie and friends to visit a night market nearby the area. We window shop till about 9.45pm and we all went back to our hotel to rest.

Tomorrow is going to be another long day as we will be heading to Zhou Zhuang first before heading to Shanghai from Suzhou. Hence, it’s going to be a long journey on the bus. Today I enjoyed myself and I learn quite a number of stuff from the tour around Suzhou today. It’s 11.30pm and it’s getting late, guess I’m going to sleep now once I’m done with this post.
