Hello! Good Evening guys, its day twenty-eight of my OIP trip in Nanjing – China. Today I woke up at 6.30am to prepare myself for TP lesson at 8am. Shan Chun and I left the apartment at 7.20am. We were shock to hear that Kristina and Yi Zhen properties have been stolen. The total asset lost was two laptops and one iPhone 4. It was due to a night robbery at their apartment when no one notices that someone had broken into their apartment as they were all heavy sleeper. No one is sure about what had happen and I believe an investigation is being carried out as we speak.
Anyway today during TP lesson, we have completed Chapter 5: Process of Demodulation: AM & FM Demodulation. I have learnt to be able to understand the principles of FM demodulation, being able to explain the concept of FM demodulation, being able to sketch the block diagram for a PLL FM demodulator and explain its principles of operation, being able to explain the FM capture effect, being able to explain the reasons for carrying out the processes of Pre-emphasis at the FM transmitter and De-emphasis at the FM receiver as well as being able to sketch simple RC networks to function as pre-emphasis and de-emphasis networks. We even went through tutorial 5 in class before we went for our lunch break.
The lesson ended at 12noon where Shan Chun and I went opposite our school to have fried rice for our lunch. After our filling meal, we went back to our apartment to rest as it was still too early for our IS lesson at 2pm.
We left our apartment at 1.40pm for our IS lesson at 2pm. Today’s IS lesson focus on Chinese and Western Philosophy. It was very interesting and I’m glad the professor spoken in English language so that it would be easier for us to understand them as well as the topic. He was very loud and clear when he was speaking which was rather surprise that his spoken English was very good. The topic was on Ancient Tragedy and Modern Scientific Attitude. This topic was broken down into a few sub-heading as stated below.
A. On Today’s Topics Specific: Philosophy? – Metaphysic on Western and Eastern in Science. Some differences between Chinese and westerners
B. Thinking Way? Case 1: Beautiful Girl Case 2: Mine Disaster!
In General: The Difference I Chinese: Confucianism Nature of things, Munetomo, Zhengxintai, Sincerity, Self-cultivation, Cultivation and Statesmen, and the world. Good man will lead to Good world. (Woman too)
In General: The Difference II Westerners: Metaphysics. Look into the world first followed by the man. Metaphysic: After physics. Scientific Attitude. Man and the world: Intersection.
C. How could it be? Story 1: Horse ass effect The width of horse ass results and decides the size of everything in the world.
Story 2: Monkey-banana effect Taboo is a habit of heritage without knowing the reasons why.
D. Thinking Way Difference: Why? Horse Ass? Monkey-banana? Question 1: What happened long long time ago in China and Europe? Question 2: What can affect our basic thinking way and attitude toward the world in the strongest and easiest way? Answers to 1 & 2: By reading, Lean in School or Through Story drama.
E. Ancient Tragedy Ancient Greek is the origin of western culture. In ancient Greek, there is a very special period in drama: Ancient Greek Tragedy.
Ancient Greek Tragedy: Oedipus the King by Sophokles 495-406 BC The sense of Oedipus The King Oedipus is innocent. He never meant to commit any crime but his fate is very cruel. He is a brave man. He struggled with his fate all the time. He failed but continued to fight with his fate. He is a hero. The audience were taught to form an important concept: the wishes and the real world are different. Scientific attitude. Ancient Greek (not truly a) Tragedy: Ion by Euripides 480-406 BC Ion is actually not a tragedy Zeus seduced ion and left her alone after she gave birth to a son; Ion left the baby in the temple of Apollo. The baby was adopted by the priest. Several years later Ion and her husband came in the temple and found the boy. Her husband liked the boy very much and Ion doubted the boy was her husband’s illegitimate child and became very jealous. Ion decided to kill the boy by poison but failed and the priest told her the truth. She and her husband then brought the boy home and led a happy life.
Horse ass of the westerners’ attitude in thinking way Ancient Greek tragedy is only a short period and never Revival or got back again. Few people know it. Formed the Horse ass. A heritage via Monkey-banana effect.

Ancient Chinese Tragedy 1: Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai ancient Chinese folk love story (Romeo and Juliet in China)
Ancient Chinese Tragedy 2: Orphan of Zhao’s Family “What goes around comes around”. The story accomplished this traditional idea. Existing idea the first. Prove it then by story. Girl looks like a flower.
Ancient Chinese Tragedy 3: Maid Dou’s Injustice When Dou was executed, she cursed there would snow in June, and then a three year’s drought. It came true. Three years later Dou’s ghost appears when her father became a high rank official to take over his former. Her father ordered to re-investigate the case of Dou and the truth is redressed. Also “What goes around comes around”.
Comparing with Hamlet Hamlet: ghost appears in the first, and then a sad end with great struggle in the souls. Dou’s Injustice: ghost appears near the end, it results in a good end without any struggles in the souls. To be or not to be: that’s the question. A new conclusion abstracted from a story; “What goes around comes around”. An known general moral belief. Story explains the belief.
F. Thinking Way Difference: Conclusion and Discussion. Thinking Way in Tragedies I Ancient Greek tragedy cultivated the culture ancestors of the Europeans to be of scientific attitude to respect the real world and hidden rules in nature and fate. Ancient Chinese tragedy taught the ancestors of our Chinese to believe the fate is eventually controlled by justice and morality of man. Butterflies are also a beautiful human-life for good moral persons.

Shan Chun and I turned on our laptops and continue with our OIE IS Presentation PowerPoint where we left on from yesterday before catching up with our social media. The PowerPoint wasn’t easy to complete as there was lots of details to be added especially with critical thinking and analyzing to be done.
At 6pm in the evening, Shan Chun, Jun Hao, Raymond, Joseph and I went down for dinner at one of the Chinese dessert restaurant near Gate 3. After our filling meal, we went back to our apartment to rest. Shan Chun and I then continue our work with lots of struggle. It’s 10.20pm now and I’m going to sleep now as I had a full day of mind exhaustion activity. Good Night & Take Care Readers!
