Journal Entry 29 (Day 29)

Hello! Good Evening guys, its day twenty-nine of my OIP trip in Nanjing – China. Today I woke up at 6.30am to prepare myself for TP lesson at 8am. Shan Chun and I left the apartment at 7.20am.

Anyway today during TP lesson, we started on Chapter 6: AM/FM Receivers. It has taught me how to explain radio reception as the reverse of the transmission process, being able to classify receivers according to their frequency, modulation or function, being able to define typical receiver’s characteristics: Sensitivity as well as Selectivity, being able to draw the labelled block diagram of a Superhet receiver and explain its principles of operation, being able to explain in details the function of each component block in the Superhet receiver, being able to explain how tracking in the local oscillator maintains a constant IF as well as being able to explain the origin of the image channel interference.

TP lesson ended at 11.15am and everyone else disperses for their own individual activities. I went to meet my China exchange student, 唐丽娜, Tang Li Na, at our school’s water fountain. I just know her two days ago as she was the one calling me up on the mobile and was trying to explain to me what’s going on. After a day of conversation and I found out that it was the club of the international exchange student social club chairman who gave my number and maybe some others to the students who join their club. Guess I was one of the lucky one to be interacting with one of them.

唐丽娜, 19 years old, was a local year 1 student of the Nanjing University of Science and Technology whom is taking a degree in finance and business in this school. It was a coincidence where our birthday lies on the same month of October. Her birthday is on the 14th October while my birthday was on the 3rd October. Anyway I heard that the students here usually take 4 years to complete their study in this school and graduate.

Today I actually had two choices. One was to visit Nanjing Brocade museum with Mr. Tan and the other was to hang out with the exchange student. After a long time of deep thinking, I finally came to a conclusion and decided to hang out with the exchange student instead of going to the museum.

Firstly, it was an optional choice to follow him. Secondly if I was there at the museum, I would be just taking photos. Thirdly, I only have another ten days in Nanjing. The only opportunity cost was that I would not be able to see the kind of ancient traditional clothes at the museum and maybe unable to learn some history from the museum itself. Which in turned I traded for the experience to actually interact with one of the local student in Nanjing. Isn’t that what we should be doing when were took the five over hours flight from Singapore to Nanjing?

Anyway I met her with her friend for the first time at our school water fountain and we went somewhere around the school to chat. We chatted and share experience of living the environment in Nanjing compared with Singapore. It was really nice knowing her and I believe they could be my pen pal when I’m back in Singapore. It was a memorable experience interacting with them even though my Chinese spoken language wasn’t that good. What’s important is that I tried my best. The language barrel was still the only problem we all felt awkward about it.

I went for lunch at the canteen near the school at 12noon before I went back to my apartment to rest while both of them went to the library to study. They both have English Listening class at 2pm till 3.40pm. Her friend was only 18 years old and studying in university. I wonder Singapore age limit have students her age studying in university. Once back, I turned on my laptop to catch up with my social media and continue with my IS PowerPoint Project.

At 3.50pm I left the apartment and meet唐丽娜 at the water fountain at 4pm. We went to the nearby garden near our apartment and chat till about 5.40pm. After our conversation, I went to the canteen to buy 11 Yuan worth of duck meat with rice for dinner.

After my filling meal, I continue doing my IS PowerPoint for the rest of the evening. Its 10.45pm and I’m going to sleep now. Tomorrow is going to be another day of lesson. Good Night and Take Care Readers!
